Throughout my life I have always loved sports and activity. I played tennis and softball and really enjoyed training my body to compete at its best. In college, a friend challenged me to run and participated in a few 5K races with her. That led me to train for half marathons and I completed 3 half marathons in one year. I love the exhilaration of pushing my body to new limits and figuring out how to treat my own injuries to recover in time for the next race. I was always amazed how people with such different body types and athletic abilities could train their bodies to perform optimally and wanted to learn more about it and to help such individuals reach their goals.
After completing graduate school and obtaining my doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, I began working at an outpatient clinic in a trauma hospital treating a variety of individuals of all ages with orthopedic and neuromuscular disorders. I was so motivated in rehabilitating my active patients with neurological pathophysiology that I became certified in the neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) approach to multidisciplinary treatment of neuromuscular dysfunction. I gained incredible knowledge in assessment and treatment of the human movement system by analyzing postural control as well as normal and abnormal movement patterns. This approach improved my therapeutic handling skills to facilitate the dynamic reciprocal interactions with my clients to activate optimal sensorimotor processing, activity performance, skill acquisition and refinement for participation in meaningful activities. Years of experience has offered me the ability to further apply these skills to help golfers on the golf course, football players on the field, basketball players on the court, gymnasts in the gym; wherever the sport is, I participate with my clients in meeting them where their need is.
I have been a Physical Therapist for over 17 years and I still love to participate in helping individuals improve their functional activity because of the variety of specialties I have experienced and seeing astounding outcomes and improvements in people’s lives. I continue to actively treat patients in an outpatient setting from young people to active geriatrics. My experience as an ergonomic specialist allows me to assess individual workstation set-ups to offer improvements and modifications to improve a more efficient workplace and mitigate injury. I have also participated with the local police department in assisting an officer in returning back to duty following an injury by attending simulated trainings, ride-a-longs and target shooting at a gun range to effectively customize exercise to meet the goals of performing the required job duties. I have also become more actively involved in assisting golfers to optimize their movement patterns and strengths to improve their golf swing mechanics, distance and directional control as well as accuracy and trajectory in their short game. Even pregnant with my third child now, I strive to stay physically active and continue to work in helping others achieve their goals as well.
With the virtual world at our fingertips, we have come to realize that the possibilities are endless because we are no longer limited in reaching only those we can meet in person, we have the opportunity of helping active individuals beyond our physical locations. We are excited to offer our years of training and experience to assist those who have the desire to move better, feel better and perform better in whatever activity they enjoy, so let us help you take the next step to integrate health and fitness into your life today!
